An introduction to the I Ching, its methods, and the eight trigrams.
The I Ching, or Book of Changes, is one of the oldest of the Chinese classics — a divination manual and book of wisdom dating back more than three thousand years. At its heart lie 64 hexagrams, each a stack of six lines that may be solid (yang) or broken (yin). Together they map the cycles of change that move through all things.
To consult the oracle is to pose a sincere question and receive a hexagram that mirrors the moment — its energies, its tensions, and its tendency to transform. The changing lines reveal where movement is gathering, pointing toward a second, transformed hexagram.
Every reading contains hexagrams within hexagrams. The Nuclear hexagram is drawn from the inner four lines and reveals the hidden core of a situation. The Inverse turns the hexagram upside-down — reading it from the other person's perspective. The Complement changes every line into its opposite (yin ↔ yang) to show the shadow or counterpart. Each offers another angle on your question.
Each reading is stamped with the current lunar phase and season — the celestial weather of the moment you consult the oracle. The moon's age is computed from the synodic cycle, grounding your reading in the rhythm of the heavens.
